Gwirvol Youth Forum Theatre Group

Starting Monday february 13th!

Theatr Fforwm are starting up a youth forum theatre group for young people who want to volunteer with us in the community. The group will learn our techniques, and work with us devising and performing original pieces of theatre in the community.

If you are aged 16 - 25 and live in the Swansea area and are interested, contact Deri on deri@theatrfforwmcymru.org.uk or the above number.

Olion Project

In partnership with Swansea Metropolitan University and funded by the Welsh Assembly Governments's Reach The Heights scheme, we will be working intensively with groups of young people over the next year who are not in education, employment or training. We will be working with the groups to make pieces of theatre out of their own stories

Later in the year we hope to bring the groups together to
perform pieces of legislative theatre at an “Agora” with invited policy makers, educators and others concerned with youth issues.

If you are interested in this on your own behalf or on behalf of young people that you work with, please contact Deri on the above numbers or on deri@theatrfforwmcymru.org.uk

Arts Council Wales training

Friday 27th, Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th of January will see our last ACW training.

This time participants will be trained in Jokering skills.

This training has really improved Theatr Fforwm's freelance base of facilitators and actors and had formed a strongly bonded group of workers, it's been a great experience.

Some of the actors and facilitators have already worked with us on various projects supported by their mentors. More mentored projects are set up to run in the next couple of months.

Arts Council Wales

"Sanctuary" Project

Coming up this spring.

The aim of this project is to work with the “Swansea - City of Sanctuary” group, plus others working directly with the refugee and asylum seeker community in Swansea e.g. DPIA (Displaced people in Action), Swansea Bay Refugee and Asylum Seeker Support Group, all of whom, we have worked with in the past.

The initial part of the project will be run as drama workshops, in order to explore what we mean by sanctuary. From these groups and these exploratory workshops, we will create forum theatre performances that will be toured into schools, colleges, universities and appropriate community settings. There are a number of secondary schools in Swansea have now also applied for “Schools of Sanctuary” status, for which this work will be particularly appropriate. This project will culminate in an “Agora” which is the name we give to our Legislative Theatre projects; this will explore issues around destitution

Sanctuary also leads on from our previous Arts Council funded project called “Who are these People”..

If you would like to find out more about this project, please contact Gill on the above numbers or on gill@theatrfforwmcymru.org.uk
