THEATR FFORWM CYMRU NEWS JUNE 2007

Theatr Fforwm Cymru on the move after 11 years in Goodwick. Watch this space to find out where this move will be to.

ACW grant for a project with refugee and asylum seekers.

We are delighted to have this funding to work in the 4 deployment areas of Wales, Newport, Swansea, Cardiff and Wrexham. Working with this community we will spend a week in each area devising and touring forum theatre on the issues effecting the lives of these people within the communities that they now live in. In refugee week in 2009 we will culminate in an AGORA in Cardiff where the 4 communities will present legislative theatre to policy makers.

Base 64 Multilateral Youth Exchange comes to St David’s

From July 27th – August 3rd, Britain’s smallest city will be positively ringing with multi-national voices, as Theatr Fforwm Cymru’s youth group, Base 64, hosts visitors from Lithuania, Estonia, Portugal and Romania, all taking part in “Acting Around” – an exchange based on theatre, and giving participants an opportunity to get involved with forum theatre, mask theatre, stage fighting, media – and coasteering!  We’ll be based in Twr y Felin, Wales’ first eco hotel, and are really looking forward to welcoming old friends and new to North Pembrokeshire, showing them how we live, and treating them to a trip to Castell Henllys Iron Age fort (complete with woad face painting and baking bread celtic-style), a local band night, and much laughter, games, learning – and very little sleep!

Methyr Tydfil World Environment Day launch

We were delighted to be commissioned to present two pieces of forum theatre for the Methyr Tydfil launch of Enviroman that took place on World Environment Day. The morning was for secondary school pupils and the afternoon for junior schools. The issues we looked at included recycling, composting, fly tipping and local shopping etc. The interventions and solutions offered by the pupils were enlightening  and really creative. We really enjoyed this piece of work and big thanks to the fantastic team in Methyr.

Thanks also to the great performances from Maya, Rhodri and Susan who volunteered for this.

Somali Independence Day

Working with pupils from Ninian Park Junior school in Cardiff to help the Somali Integration Society celebrate Somali independence day. The focus is the eradication of poverty and development issues.

Caerphilly – two pieces of work for conferences looking at bullying, both for the healthy schools initiative and also how bullying can effect the mental health of people of all ages.

Swansea – a forum theatre presentation during refugee week in June, working with Swansea University’s “D.A.C.E.”, multi ethnic parenting project.

Joker Training in Estonia

Gill is travelling to Estonia to run a further 5-day joker training for the Drums for Peace network in mid-June.  Lowri, Angelika and Hannah are travelling with her as Welsh participants.
